5 Proven Tips and Tricks to Monetizing Your YouTube Channel

There are billions of videos on YouTube currently. And more videos are being uploaded every single second. With content varying from tutorials to funny gag videos to cute animal videos, the sky is the limit when it comes to content. This also means that there is a lot of stiff competition out there when it comes to earning money from your YouTube videos.

With all those videos competing for views, monetizing your channel might seem like an insurmountable task. But if you try our tips and tricks to help you monetize your channel, that task might prove to be more than manageable. Maybe even downright achievable.

1.  Advertiser-friendly guidelines

First things first: always follow YouTube’s monetization guidelines. Being in the YouTube Partner Program, monetizing your channel means having to conform to the guidelines set out by YouTube. If you have content that doesn’t follow the guidelines, all you have to do is turn off ads for that video.

2.  AdSense

You need 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 watch hours in a 12-month period in order to qualify to get your AdSense set up. Once you do, this is a good way to earn money from YouTube putting in ads in your videos. They will add ads to your videos anyway, regardless. You might as well earn from that, right?

To get to 1,000 subscribers you’ll need to create awesome content. And more importantly, you need to master SEO for YouTube. This means you need to use the right keywords and hashtags to drive traffic to your channel and your videos.

3.  Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing simply means you can make money buying, reviewing, and getting a commission from products that various companies are selling. Companies like Amazon have an affiliate program that you can sign up for. Once you do, you can buy their products and review them. You will be given a special link for your subscribers to click on to buy the product you are reviewing. If they use your link, you get a commission for the sale. Useful, quality content plus commission, sounds like a good deal.

4.  Sponsorship

You can work directly with companies to sell their products to your audience. You either reach out to companies or, if you’re lucky, the companies will reach out to you to see about having you promote their products on your channel. You will have to properly disclose this relationship in order to stay within the guidelines regarding company sponsorships.

Or, if you have very supportive subscribers who are willing to sponsor you, they can. You can start a Patreon account where your subscribers can support you monetarily through monthly donations.

5.  Merchandise

Since you already have a YouTube channel, why not sell your merchandise on it? You can sell t-shirts of your own design. Or if you draw or make any other form of artwork, you can sell those as well. You can tie this up with your Patreon by providing your sponsors’ merchandise; say, for lower-tier sponsors, you can give them an armband from your channel, and higher-tier sponsors would get something of greater value.

With all of these tips, the best way to start after having your channel up is spreading the word about your channel. If you want to earn money from your YouTube channel, you will need more subscribers. The more subscribers you have, the more doors for product sponsorships and ad revenue you open.

One of the best ways to gain and keep subscribers is to develop a relationship with them and to make yourself more easily accessible. The better your relationship is with your subscribers, the greater the chances are of subscriber retention and growth. Apps like Callmart allow you to do just that and help you be on your way to monetizing your YouTube channel.
